The AFL Grand final is one of Australia’s major sporting events. 23 rounds make up the season and three weeks of AFL finals footy follows and on Grand Final day only two teams remain.

Traditionally held on a Saturday afternoon in late September the Grand Final takes place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne, Victoria, and is officially the most popular Australian sporting event of the year pulling in approximately 5 million TV viewers in 2016.
The MCG has hosted the Grand Final AFL / VFL match from 1902 and the game has only been played at a different venue on just nine occasions since 1898. At the end of the Grand Final there is a presentation ceremony where the winning team are gold Premiership Medallion. ]

The AFL Grand Final winners are awarded the AFL Premiership Cup and Premiership Flag. The player judged to be the man-of-the-match is awarded the prestigious Norm Smith medal.

In the last few years we’ve seen some historic feats in the Grand Final. In 2016 the Western Bulldogs broke a 55 year drought after they finally clinched a Grand Final. In 2015 Hawthorn won their 3rd consecutive premiership after beating West Coast.
